Allahabad: Uttar Pradesh Minister Nand Gopal Gupta "Nandi" was on Monday injured in an explosion inside his residential premises here, police said.
The driver and the personal security officer of 36-year-old Gupta, who is the Minister for Institutional Finance, Stamp and Judicial Tax, suffered serious injures, they said.
Gupta is reported to be critical in hospital. Tension mounted after the blast, and most of the shops in adjoining localities were closed down.
According to reports, the incident happened near Nandi's residence in Muthi Ganj locality of the city when the minister along with his security personal came out of his residence and was about to get into his official car when a bomb, planted on motorbike parked near the car, went off injuring the minister and four others.
Some other reports claim that the attackers came on a motorbike and hurled country made bombs and fired at the minister.
Although there is no official confirmation but media reports claimed that the minister is critically injured. He and the others inured have been rushed to local hospital. PTI
