New Delhi: In a setback to the ruling BJP, Congress has won the Jhabua-Ratlam Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh by a huge margin of over 88,000 votes.

The Congress had fielded former union minister Kantilal Bhuria against BJP's Petlawad MLA Nirmala Bhuria, daughter of Dileep Singh Bhuria, whose death necessitated the bypoll.

During the 2014 general elections, Dileep had won the polls for the first time on the BJP ticket from the seat.

With this victory, the tally of Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha will now be 45.

The Lok Sabha constituency includes the Petlawad region that saw a devastating explosion triggered by mining explosives that killed over 100 people in September this year.

A Congress victory in Ratlam is seen as a shot in the arm for the ailing party that has been out of power in the state for over a decade now and an embarrassment

BJP debuts in Manipur Assembly with 2 seats

BJP opened its account in Manipur assembly by winning the bypoll in two constituencies of  Thangmeiband and Thongju today.

The saffron party trounced ruling Congress in both the seats. Kh Joykishan Singh of BJP won Thangmeiband assembly seat by securing 12,098 against Jyotin Waikhom of Congress who got 10,195 votes.

Th Bishwajit Singh of BJP won Thongju Assembly constituency by securing 14605 against Bijoy Koijam of Congress who obtained 11,393 votes, the election office said.

GA Tonsana Sharma of Manipur Democratic People Front lost his deposit as he failed to secured the required number of votes in both the constituencies.

The bypolls were necessitated when the Speaker disqualified both the MLAs Kh Joykishan Singh and Th Biswajit Singh of Thangmeiband and Thongju respectively under the anti-defection law on May 28.

TRS wins Warangal LS bypoll

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) today retained the Warangal (SC) Lok Sabha seat as its candidate Pasunoori Dayakar won by a massive margin of nearly 4.6 lakh votes.

Dayakar polled 6,15,403 votes as he humbled Congress nominee and former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana (1,56,311) and BJP-TDP combine's Pagidipati Devaiah (BJP) (1,30,178) in the November 21 bypoll, for which counting was taken up this morning.

The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of Kadiyam Srihari after he was made Deputy Chief Minister. Srihari had won the seat with a margin of 3.92 lakh votes in last year's election.

The bypoll was seen a first major political test for the Chief Minister after the government assumed office in June last year.
