Congress nominates Mukesh Singh Chauhan for Lucknow east bypoll
The Congress party has announced Mukesh Singh Chauhan as its candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Lucknow East Assembly constituency, scheduled for May 20, coinciding with the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal confirmed the nomination, stating, “Congress president Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of Shri Mukesh Singh Chauhan for the ensuing by-election to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from 173-Lucknow East Constituency.”
Background and profile
Mukesh Singh Chauhan, currently serving as a general secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, brings with him a background in municipal governance, having served as a corporator of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. He has been actively involved in party activities, previously holding positions in the Lucknow City unit of the Congress and serving as the spokesperson of the Uttar Pradesh Congress.

State Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi expressed jubilation among party workers following the announcement of Chauhan’s candidacy, highlighting optimism and support for their nominee in the upcoming bypoll.
Samajwadi Party candidates
In March, the Samajwadi Party had declared candidates for three out of the four assembly constituencies slated for bypolls in Uttar Pradesh. Avadhesh Kumar Verma, Rakesh Yadav, and Vijay Singh Gond were nominated for Dadraul, Gainsari, and Duddhi constituencies respectively, but no candidate was declared for the Lucknow East assembly seat.
