Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: A ruling party BJD MLA in Orissa, Jagabandhu Majhi, and his personal security officer were shot dead by unknown assailants suspected to be Maoists today.

 
The MLA was shot dead while distributing land records at a public meeting in Gona village of Raigarh Block in Nawarangpur district. The attack took place at around noon.

39-year-old Majhi, a prominent tribal leader, who represented Umerkote Assembly constituency was a popular leader and had faced two attacks before and was moving on wheelchair.

Police says, Maoists are involved in this killing. since the scene of crime is close to Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.

The bodies of Majhi and his PSO, P. K. Patro have been taken to the Raighar Police Station. The state government has ordered  a Crime Branch probe into the matter, chief minister Naveen Patnaik said.
