Nalanda, Bihar, Sept 15: Two policemen have been suspended after India TV telecast video of the brutal lathicharge on women by policemen in Noor Sarai near Nalanda on Wednesday afternoon.
The women had gheraoed the DIG Vinay Vineet Vinayak to demand arrest of an assistant sub-inspector Ashok Singh, who, they alleged, was instrumental in the disappearance of a woman Reena Devi.
Reena Devi had objected to an illicit affairs between her relative and the ASI, after which she suddenly disappeared.
Angry women gheraoed the DIG and then the policemen ran amok.
The policemen began beating up women with lathis, even if they tried to hide in shops. The women were pulled out of shops, and beaten on the road. Prior to the lathicharge, some miscreants had stoned policemen, which fuelled their rage.
SP Nalanda Jitendra Rana said, two policemen have been suspended and cases will be lodged against the two.
