Bedevilled by simmering dicontent among the rank and file, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar performed +Rudrabhisheka+, religious ritual of Lord Shiva at the 1500-year-old Mahendranath temple at Mahdar in Siwan district praying for welfare of the people.
Kumar, currently on a four-day +Pravas Yatra+, visited the temple on Monday and performed the ritual propitiating Lord Shiva.
The Rudrabhisheka is one of the most effective forms of worship in Hinduism that is performed for seeking immediate blessing of Lord Shiva for conquering all types of unrest, problems and miseries and ensuring 'griha shanti' (Peace in the house).
It is also performed to ensure 'rajyoga' (opportunity to govern or the chance to put cantankerous issues faced by rulers behind and assure a better future).
Much significance is being attached to Nitish performing the ritual in the light of simmering discontent among the rank and file of ruling JD(U) with a powerful group of party leaders, including ex-MP Prabhunath Singh and State minister Jamshed Asraf revolting against him.
Chief Minister's prayers coincided with the change of party's guard in Bihar. JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav had on sunday appointed Vijay Choudhary as new president of the JD(U)'s Bihar unit after accepting resignation of sulking Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan from the post.
'I performed the ritual for the welfare and prosperity of Bihar...no no political motive be read into it', Kumar said while talking to reporters. PTI
