Jaipur, Sep 18: The Rajasthan government today said there was no administrative lapse during the Bharatpur violence which left eight people dead and 21 injured.

“If there had been an administrative lapse, the death toll would have been 100-150,” Chief Secretary S Ahmed told reporters here.

He also denied involvement of outside element in the incident.

The incident was the result of the differences between people from Gurjar and Mev community, Ahmed said.

“The situation in Gopalgarh is improving and in a day or two things would normalise. The administration has started giving relaxation in curfew hours and adequate security forces have been deployed including Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and police force,” he said.

Meanwhile, state Congress chief Chandranhan will accompany a four-member AICC team from New Delhi, which will visit Bharatpur tomorrow.

Eight people were killed and 21 others injured on Wednesday in a clash between two communities over a land dispute at Gopalgarh in Bharatpur, forcing the district authorities to impose curfew in some areas.

According to police, incorrect entry of a land meant for digging a pond as a graveyard in government records by a local patwari was the cause of the clash. PTI
