Chandigarh, Apr 12: In view of the increasing number of such applications, the Haryana government has said that four-wheelers complying with Bharat Stage-III emission norms cannot be given permits for the NCR region.

An official release quoting Transport Commissioner Sumita Misra said as per the Central motor vehicle rules, motorists seeking registration certificates for metro cities, including the NCR region, must ensure that their vehicles fulfil Bharat Stage IV pollution norms.

The state transport department had been receiving requests for registration of four-wheelers fulfilling only the Bharat Stage-III standards, the release said.

It said that as per the 2009 notification issued by the Central government, four wheelers manufactured on or after April 1, 2010 must comply with Bharat Stage IV emission standards.

Transport vehicles plying on inter-state, national or all India tourist permits, however, are exempted from this rule.

While Bharat Stage-IV emission norms have been into effect for four-wheelers in 13 metro cities, including the NCR, since April 2010, Bharat Stage-III norms are applicable for two and three-wheelers and diesel driven tractors.
