Bhabanipur Election Result: Big win for Mamata Banerjee, beats BJP's Priyanka by more than 5,8000 votes

Mamata Banerjee said that people of Bhabanipur have given a befitting reply to the conspiracy that was hatched in Nandigram. Banerjee had lost to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram. 

Ruling BJD candidate Rudra Pratap Maharathy on Sunday widened his lead over nearest rival Ashrit Pattanayak of the BJP to 11,196 votes at the end of the eleventh round of counting in the Pipili by-election, the Election Commission said. Maharathy secured 42,774 votes, while Pattanayak bagged 31,578 votes, and Congress nominee Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohapatra got 2,602 votes. Of the 78,675 votes counted till the end of the eleventh round, 401 people chose the NOTA (none of the above) option, it said.

According to the Election Commission of India, Mamata Banerjee bagged 84,709 votes while Priyanka Tibrewal pocketed 26,320. CPIM leader Srijib Biswas got 4,201 votes. 

Mamata Banerjee said that the TMC has won in each and every ward. "I am satisfied because Bhabanipur has shown the way. All eyes were on this seat. I have been freshly inspired to work more for the people," she said.

Mamata Banerjee thanks the people of Bhabanipur after winning in the bypoll. "I thank you all. Sisters, brothers, mothers and everyone from India," she said. "In 2016, I had seen that I got fewer votes in some wards. 46 per cent of the population is non-Bengali and everyone has voted for me. I am happy that the people of Bhabanipur has shown faith in me. I am indebted to the people of Bhabanipur."

Mamata Banerjee wins by 58,389 votes in Bhabanipur. According to the ECI, Mamata Banerjee secured 84,709 votes while BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal bagged 26,320 votes. CMP candidate Srijib Biswas for 4,201 votes.

After 20 rounds, Mamata Banerjee is leading by 56,388 votes. TMC: 82,068 and BJP: 25,680

After Round 14 of vote counting, Mamata Banerjee is leading by a vote margin of over 37,550 in Bhabanipur against BJP's Priyanka. Mamata has secured 55,404 votes while Priyanka got 17,854 votes. CPIM candidate has bagged only 2,037 votes.

According to the Election Commission, TMC candidate Jakir Hossain is leading with over 20,000 votes in Jangipur while the BJP candidate is trailing at the second spot with over 8,000 votes.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned all victory celebrations in West Bengal. Counting is currently underway in Bhabanipur, Jangipur and Samserganj of West Bengal. "No victory celebration/procession during/after the counting shall be allowed in the ongoing elections in West Bengal, for which counting is being held on 03.10.2021. All necessary actions must be taken to ensure strict compliance with the Commission's direction wherein all such activities have already been prohibited in view of pandemic. The state government must ensure that adequate steps are taken so that no post-poll violence takes place," the ECI said in a letter to West Bengal Chief Secretary.

After twelfth round, Mamata Banerjee leading by 34970 votes: Mamata Banerjee: 48,813 votes; Priyanka Tibrewal (BJP): 13,843; Srijib Biswas (CPIM): 1,255 votes

After 11th round of counting, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee leads by 34,000 votes in Bhabnipur Assembly by-election

Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has congratulated West Bengal Mamata Banerjee as she heads towards a comfortable win at Bhabanipur. 

After 10 rounds, Mamata Banerjee leads by 31,645 votes. While Mamata has secured 42,122 votes, BJP candidate has Priyanka has pocketed 10,477 votes. CPIM candidate has got 1,234 votes.

After the 8th round of voting, Mamata Banerjee is leading by 27,508 votes; currently on 34,721 votes. 

BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal, currently on 7,219 votes, is trailing from Bhabanipur.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee leads by 12,435 votes in Bhabanipur after the 4th round. Mamata who had lost the assembly elections from Nandigram earlier this year is up against BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal and CPI(M)'s Srijib Biswas.

According to the Election Commission of India's figure, after the third round of counting: TMC  9,974 | BJP 3,828 | CPIM 250. The final result will be declared after 21 rounds of counting.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Rudra Pratap Maharathy is leading after the first round of counting of votes for Pipili Assembly bypolls, as per data available on Election Commission of India's website.

According to the Election Commission, TMC candidates Jakir Hossain and Amirul Islam are leading in Jangipur and Samserganj, respectively.

After the third round, Mamata Banerjee is leading by 4,600 votes against nearest BJP rival Priyanka Tibrewal. The final result will be declared after 21 rounds of counting, the Election Commission has said.

Mamata Banerjee is a resident of Bhabanipur and has contested from the seat in the past two state assembly elections since 2011. Banerjee, who led her party to a massive electoral triumph for a third successive term, is required to win a seat in the state assembly by November 5 in conformity with the constitutional provisions to continue as Chief Minister. The Constitution allows a non-member of a state legislature or Parliament to continue in a ministerial position for six months. Banerjee had entered the Assembly after winning the by-poll in the Bhabanipur seat months after her party stormed to power by ousting the 34-year-old Left Front regime in 2011. She is a six-term MP from the South Kolkata Lok Sabha seat, which has the Bhabanipur seat as one of its segments.

The counting of votes in Bhabanipur is underway amid tight security. After the second round, Mamata Banerjee is leading by more than 2,400 votes. The third round counting is currently underway. According to the Election Commission of India, there will be 21 rounds of counting.

The ruling Trinamool Congress has claimed that Mamata Banerjee will win by more than 50,000 votes. State Cabinet Minister and senior TMC leader Firhad Hakim said, “We are very confident that she will win by more than 50, 000 votes.”

Trinamool Congress candidate Jakir Hossain, a former state minister, is leading by more than 1,700 votes in Jangipur seat of Murshidabad district after the postal ballot counting. BJP has fielded Sujit Das from here. Jangipur has been traditionally known as a Congress bastion. The grand old party has won from here 11 times since 1951.

Mamata Banerjee is leading in stronghold Bhabanipur by 2,800 votes. Mamata has secures 4,250 votes while her nearest BJP rival Priyanka has pocketed 1,450 votes so far. According to the ECI, there will be 21 rounds of counting of votes in the Bhabanipur.

Counting of votes for the Bhabanipur bypoll in West Bengal began at 8 am on Sunday amid tight security.

Polls were countermanded in Jangipur and Samserganj in the Murshidabad district, following the death of one candidate each. Over 57 per cent polling was registered in Bhabanipur. A high voting rate at 79.92 per cent and 77.63 per cent was recorded in Samserganj and Jangipur, respectively. 

State minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, who won the assembly election from Bhabanipur in south Kolkata, vacated it shortly after results were declared in May, paving the way for the by-election so that Mamata Banerjee could fight it.

BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal has written to the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court anticipating post poll violence in the Assembly constituency. Priyanka referenced the post poll violence in Nandigram that took place soon after result announcement for West Bengal assembly elections this year.
