Siliguri, Feb 7: Police resorted to lathicharge after two groups of students belonging to CPI-M and Trinamool Congress resorted to a violent clash after SFI candidates won the students' union elections in Alipurduar College on Monday.


Students pelted stones at police, after which police went on a lathi-wielding spree.

Two policemen and eight students were injured in the violence, while 18 students were taken into custody.
