Mandi: A video purportedly showing the 24 students from Hyderabad being washed away in the Beas river in Himachal Prdesh's Mandi district has gone viral on the Internet.
The video apparently shot by some local person shows the students standing on the boulders in the river bed amid the swirling river.
The video, now on YouTube, shows a wall of gushing waters suddenly hitting the merrymaking students and then sweeping them away.
Rescue teams today fished out the sixth body of another student from the Beas River and intensified the hunt for 19 others missing even as a case of negligence has been registered against authorities of the Larji Hydropower project in connection with the incident that occurred on Sunday.
A team of 84 people, comprising 20 NDRF divers, assisted by 18 divers of the army are searching the bodies and chances of the bodies flowing downstream Pandoh Dam are very dim. Some locals and passers-by could be seen near the river in the video, but the current was too strong to let anyone venture forth.
The video showed that the students standing on small rocks drowned first while few other students standing on a huge boulder helplessly saw their friends being washed away.
Officials said that Beas being a snowfed river, the water level increases as the day advances and reaches its peak at night.
