Badaun: The district administration today launched three toll-free helpline numbers for women and girls in distress, with an aim to instill confidence in them after the gang rape and murder of two teenagers here.
The administration also decided to launch an awareness drive with the help of social groups and administration for women and girls.
“Efforts are on to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not take place in the future,” District Magistrate in charge Udayraj Singh said today.
“In case of stalking, teasing, passing of vulgar comments or receiving vulgar messages on mobile phones or Facebook, they can immediately call on the three toll-free numbers,” he said.
Women in distress can also give a call on mobile numbers of the SSP, SP city, SP (Rural) and camp office and police would provide them help promptly, Singh said.
Meanwhile, SSP Badaun Atul Saxena said that a team of Badaun police officials today left for Hyderabad institute with the DNA samples of the five accused and that of the two cousin sisters for an impartial inquiry in the case.
The DNA and blood samples of the accused as well as those collected from the deceased have been sent to the Hyderabad institute with a letter requesting for an early report in this regard, the SSP said.
The SSP said that normally reports are received in 15 days time.
