Kaziranga national park is located on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam.
It covers an area of approximately 430-sq-kms. Due to limitless poaching of this pre-historic survivor, the Kaziranga National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1940. It is a World Heritage Site and boasts the highest density of tigers among protected areas in the world.
Kaziranga was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006. The park hosts two-thirds of the world's great One-horned Rhinoceroses. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer.
