New Delhi, March 9: Delhi Police on Wednesday released the sketch of the suspected assailant who killed Delhi University student Radhika Tanwar on a foot overbridge in Dhaula Kuan.
Police said, the assailant had used a .315 countrymade pistol and it was a pre-planned murder.
Deputy commissioner of police (South) HGS Dhaliwal said, the assailant had carefully chosen the foot overbridge as the scene of crime.
"The accused can be caught if passersby who saw him shooting cooperate and give clues to the police", said Dhaliwal.
The sketch details said the assailant was 5'4" in height and was wearing a black T-shirt at the time of the crime.
"Anybody ws has seen anything and think he can help in our investigation should come forward and contact us. Their identities will be kept confidential", assured Dhaliwal.
The police official pointed out that the police constable had reached the spot within 2 to 3 minutes of Police Control Room getting the news.
"The constable tried to take the girl to the hospital. He requested motorists to help, but nobody stopped. Finally, he had to force an autodriver to take the girl to the hospital", Dhaliwal said.
Delhi chief minister Sheika Dikshit visited the family of Radhika Tanwar and promised that the killer would be caught within 12 hours.
Meanwhile, Radhika's mother Mamata Devi said that her daughter was courageous.
"Had somebody attacked from the front, she would have surely fought. The killer attacked her from the back", she said.
Radhika's sister Rajni said that she had a talk with her the other day and Radhika had said that she wanted to do MBA.
"There was only one assailant. It appears that somebody who is obsessed with her was behind the murder," Dhaliwal said.
Dhaliwal said it was "very unfortunate" that no one has come forward and informed police that they have witnessed the incident.
"A lot of people witnessed the incident. Every body denied that they saw it. We have not come across anybody who said they have seen it. It is not possible," he said, adding, there was also delay in taking the victim to a hospital.
Dhaliwal said with the help of three persons, they have prepared the sketch of the suspect, a youth who is around five feet five inches tall with a wheatish complexion.
"We are on the killer's trail. It is a planned murder. The suspect knew her very well. He knew her routine," he said. The assailant selected the FoB because it was congested and he thought he could escape fast, he said.
"He knew that he could not attack her on a public bus and he could be caught. He observed her movements and decided to attack her on the FoB. He waited at the ramp, attacked her and then fled," he said.
"The noise level in the locality was so high, he knew the sound of firing will be drowned in it. Some even mistook the gunshot for the sound of crackers," he said.
Police received two calls from the site yesterday -- one about firing and another a girl being injured after a mobile bursted. Dhaliwal said she was shot at close-range.
Police now expects the family and her close friends to provide some clue about the assailant.
"The family is cooperating with us although they are grieving," he said.
Asked whether there was a delay on the action of police in rushing the victim to hospital, Dhaliwal said the duty Constable was at the spot in 2-3 minutes. "No one from the public made an effort to take her to the hospital.
"The constable and another man took her in an auto. Two-three autos did not stop despite the constable waving at them. He then forced an auto to stop and took the girl," he said.
None of the victim's close friend was with her at the time of the incident, Dhaliwal said, adding, Radhika was shot at with a .315 bore country-made pistol.
He said they do not have any eye-witness in the "orthodox sense" of the word -- who had actually seen some one firing at the girl. "We have three people who have vague recollections of a man running away from the spot soon after the incident," he said.
