Srinagar:  A day after Jammu and Kashmir government imposed a ban on sale of Maggi noodles, authorities today lifted 103 samples for laboratory testing and also seized thousands of packets of the Nestle product from different districts.

"As per the information communicated by the Controller, Drug and Food Control Organisation, the field functionaries of the department have lifted 103 samples of Maggi noodles from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir and these have been sent for analytical laboratories.

"About 3,292 boxes and 30,867 packets of Maggi and other kinds of noodles have also been seized," an official spokesman said.

The government yesterday imposed a ban on sale of Maggi products in the state following reports of presence of non-permissible contents in these products.

The spokesman reiterated the government advisory, requesting people not to use Maggi noodles and also directed food business operators against selling, storing, exhibiting or distributing the food product.

"Anybody found selling Maggi will be strictly dealt with as per the provisions of Food Safety and Standard Act. The Food Business Operators dealing with Maggi have been directed to adopt food recall procedure as envisaged in the Act," the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Controller, Drug and Food Control Organisation also advised general public not to consume Maggi till the analytical reports of the samples lifted are received.

"The process of lifting samples of Maggi and other kinds of noodles will continue till the safe and wholesome products of above said food is available in the market," he said.
