Srinagar: Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag today reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and also on the Line of Control as the state voted in the first phase of Assembly polls.

He was briefed by 15 Corps Commander in Srinagar on the existing security situation scenario.

Suhag appreciated the initiatives taken by local commanders in greater integration and coordination with all forces functioning in the state, Army sources said.

Ensuring a violence-free election in JK is a major task for the Army and the force has been put on high alert.  Some militant groups have given a poll boycott call in the state.

15 constituencies of the state went to polls in first of the five-phased state elections.
