New Delhi: Against the backdrop of a controversy over alleged misuse of intelligence funds by a former Army Chief, Gen (retd) JJ Singh today urged everyone including Army personnel to behave responsibly otherwise the country will have to face repercussions.
“I do not know much about the subject. We all should be responsible enough to make sure that repercussions are not faced by the country or the Army. This is everyone's responsibility including political leaders, media and Army. If we are irresponsible, the country will have to face repercussions,” he told reporters here.
The former Army Chief and Governor of Arunachal Pradesh was asked if the controversy over issues such as allegations against former Army chief Gen VK Singh for misusing intelligence funds affect the morale of the Army.
He was interacting with reporters after inaugurating the Hindi version of his autobiography ‘A soldier's General'. To a question on the controversy surrounding the secret intelligence unit, Gen JJ Singh said he just wanted to say that the Army has three basic fundamentals - apolitical nature, professionalism and secularism.
Asked to comment on suggestions that former Army Chiefs should not join politics, he said, “I am no one to give sermons to others and I do not want to give my personal view on the issue.”
Gen VK Singh is facing charges over the alleged misuse of intelligence funds by a secret unit for blocking the future line of succession and destabilising the Jammu and Kashmir government. He has, however, denied the charges levelled against him.
