New Delhi: An Army Major today allegedly thrashed a soldier for boozing in Jaipur, triggering a face-off between officers and jawans.
The soldier was admitted to a civil hospital due to injuries and this angered his fellow jawans, sources said. After the incident, the jawans confronted the Major and also damaged an Army vehicle to register their protest, the sources said.
In recent years, there had been a number of incidents where army officers and jawans have been engaged in face-offs.
The first major incident had taken place in May 2012 in Nyoma in Ladakh where jawans and officers clashed during a range firing exercise.
This was followed by series of incidents in Samba in Jammu, Gurdaspur in Punjab and Meerut in UP forcing the Army to issue instructions to its officers to be sensitive in their dealings with the troops.
