Ralegan Siddhi, Nov 20: Gandhian Anna Hazare on Saturday unveiled his own wax statue made by Sunil Kandalloor, India's first and only wax model sculptor from Celebrity Wax Museum.
Forty days ago, he personally met with Anna for taking the measurements, and interestingly, experimented by putting human hair on the wax model to good effect.
To commemorate the biggest mass movement in independent India, the Celebrity Wax Museum authorities in Lonavla decided to have a statue of Anna Hazare in their museum.
Subhash Sukumaran, Director of the Celebrity Wax Museum, stated, “Anna's cap, which has the greatest heritage value, is with us. The museum is going to unveil a wax model of Anna Hazarre at Ralegan Siddhi on November 19, 2011, which is the memorial day of Anna's mother. This cap will be put on Anna's statue.”
He added, “Anna is the hero of our generation who moved the masses against corruption and made the government take stringent action against corrupt ministers, bringing in the strict Jan Lokpal Bill as deterrent against rampant corruption in the country. That is why we decided to make his statue. We were afraid that he would not give permission for the same. However, we found him very cooperative. He not only gave us permission but also his time for the measurements. He also gave us his clothes including the cap which was used by him.”
