Thane, Jul 21: Four persons were arrested after relatives and friends of a criminal allegedly ransacked the Thane district civil hospital following which security has been stepped up there, police said today.
During a dispute over the issue of parking the vendors' cart in Mumbra area of Thane district last night, Ammu alias Ahmad Nazir Shaikh (32) was allegedly stabbed by his rivals.
Ammu, known to be a history sheeter and involved in several criminal activities, was rushed to the Thane civil hospital where he was declared brought dead late last night.
The friends and relatives of the deceased, however, alleged that he died due to negligence of the doctors.
They then ransacked the hospital and assaulted those who were present there.
An offence has been registered against the mob under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage) and others of the IPC and under the provisions of the damage to public property.
Also, an offence under section 302 (murder) of IPC has been registered in connection with the incident in Mumbra where the deceased sustained injuries, though no one has been arrested for it so far, police added.
