Jammu, July 12 : Angry villagers on Thursday blocked the busy Jammu-Pathankot stretch of the National Highway for more than two hours demanding action against negligent doctors of Kathua district hospital.
The resident burnt tyres in the middle of the highway as women and children sat on dharna on the road.
Police later persuaded the protesters to move out and promised action in this case.
Fifty-year-old Punjab Singh, resident of Baswain village, Kathua, was admittd to Kathua district hospital for a minor leg surgery, but suddenly his condition became critical and he was referred to Pathankot, where he was taken to a nursing home. The nursing home doctors declared the patient as brought dead.
The relatives took his body back to Kathua hospital and lodged a complaint against hospital superintndent Dr J P Sigh. Police had to intervene and a board of doctors was set up to go through the post-mortem report. But when no action was taken, the villagers decided to block the highway.
