Hyderabad:  The Andhra Pradesh government is in touch with the Indian embassy in Nigeria to seek early release of a youth allegedly kidnapped by unidentified gunmen.

The state Minister for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) Palle Raghunatha Reddy Wednesday spoke to India's Acting High Commissioner Kaisar Alam in Nigeria over phone.

He urged the Indian envoy to speak to Nigerian president and request him to take immediate steps for the safe release of Tanguturi Srinivas, who was kidnapped from hotel room in Emigo town of Ogaria State.

The 26-year-old MBA graduate, native of Chintalapudi village of Dugirala mandal in Guntur district, had recently gone to Nigeria to work with a construction company. The gunmen kidnapped him along with two Pakistani nationals from a hotel.

The kidnapping took place Nov 28 but the family learnt about it only Tuesday. The demands of the kidnappers and other details are not known.

The minister asked N.V. Ramana Reddy, special secretary of NRI Department to coordinate with the officials of the ministry of external affairs and also Indian High Commission in Nigeria.

Raghunath Reddy spoke to Srinivas' father Tanguturi Seshashaiah and assured him that steps will be taken for his early and safe release.
