Rajahmundry (AP): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chanrababu Naidu yesterday directed District Collectors and other officials concerned to integrate the available water resources to increase ground water levels in their areas.

Speaking with Collectors and other officers up to mandal level through video conference, he said effective utilisation of water resources and their conservation was very essential keeping in view water needs.

“The state would be a model in the coming five years in utilising water resources and their conservation. We aim to make the state drought-proof in the next five years,” he said.

Adoption of water preservation works like drift irrigation, sprinklers in dry lands and utilising small lift irrigation schemes would help to achieve this goal, he said.

Water conservation management and its utility should be assessed locally and the state would support the districts on this front with available space technology, Naidu said.

With regard to Godavari districts (East and West), the Chief Minster said the multi-purpose Polavaram project would help in meeting their burgeoning water needs.
