Bangalore, July 18: Senior BJP leader H N Ananth Kumar yesterday welcomed the Centre's move to name Bengaluru International Airport after the city's founder Kempe Gowda.
“This has been a great victory for the struggle (for naming it after Kempe Gowda) in the last 10 years inside and outside Parliament,” Kumar told reporters here. The decision should take effect from tomorrow itself with announcement in all flights—to and from Bangalore, he said.
Bangalore International Airport Limited should print pamphlets highlighting the history of Kempe Gowda for distribution among passengers, Ananth Kumar, a former Union Civil Aviation Minister, said.
A Civil Aviation Ministry proposal to name the airport after Kempe Gowda was approved by the Union Cabinet at its meeting, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people of Karnataka, official sources said in Delhi.
