New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Narmada Control Authority (NCA) gave its approval to the state for raising the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
A Gujarat government press release here said the people of Gujarat and Patel thanked the Prime Minister for taking an expeditious action, allowing the state government to construct piers, overhead bridge and installations of gates on the river Narmada, enabling raising of the height of the dam.
Highlighting the benefits of Sardar Sarovar Project, the release said 17.92 lakh hectares in Gujarat and 2.46 lakh hectares in Rajasthan would get irrigation benefits.
“The project would also supply drinking water in 135 urban centres and 8215 villages in Gujarat and two urban centres and 1107 villages in Rajasthan,” the release added.
The release said the people and the leadership of Gujarat have thanked the Prime Minister for this action of the Centre immediately after assuming office.
