The objective of setting up an unit in Thane district is to serve consumers of Mumbai city and its suburbs with fresh milk and dairy products, he added.
Amul Dairy said it is expanding its operation outside Gujarat. After foraying in Maharashtra, it is now looking at West Bengal.
“We have already procured 10 acres land in Singur and investing Rs 200 crore to set up state-of-the-art dairy unit to cater to the need of Kolkata city,” Kumar said.
Currently, Amul Dairy is supplying milk to West Bengal from Gujarat. Going forward, it plans to procure from farmers in West Bengal, he added.
