New Delhi, Apr 9: Senior IAS officers Amarjit Singh and Amitava Bhattacharyya were today appointed as Secretary in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Chairman of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) respectively.
Both Singh and Bhattacharyya are Gujarat cadre officers of 1982 and 1980 batch respectively.
Singh is presently Additional Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy. Bhattacharyya is holding the charge of Secretary, UPSC.
UPSC conducts examinations to select candidates for various central services including the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS) among others.
Whereas, SSC conducts selection for Group B (non gazetted officers), Group C ( section officers and other clerical posts) and Group D (peons) for different offices under the central government.
Another IAS officer Lalit K Panwar has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Panwar, a 1979 batch officer of Rajasthan cadre, is presently Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) under the Ministry of Tourism, it today.
The vacancy has necessitated after Sutanu Behuria, a 1976 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, was appointed as Secretary in Ministry of Heavy Industries.
