All the 39 TDP MLAs from Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday decided to resign in protest against the Centre putting the issue of a separate state on the backburner, party sources said.
While the TDP's Adilabad MP, Ramesh Rathod, has submitted his resignation, five MLCs of the Chandrababu Naidu- led party have also decided to quit on the Telangana issue, they said.
The TDP's Telangana legislators, who met in Hyderabad on Thursday have decided to join the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TPJAC), a forum of several groups, and fight for a separate state, the sources said.
The main Opposition party has extended support to the two-day Telangana bandh called by TRS and othe outfits to protest the Centre's action.
Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday night said a large number of political parties are divided on the issue and the situation has altered since the Centre's December 9 announcement on a separate state for the region comprising ten districts.
