New Delhi, Nov 9: Tax payments can be made at all public sector banks and select private banks such as ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank in the city, to avoid last minute rush at counters.
“It is observed that the rush for remitting income-tax dues into the RBI has been far too heavy towards the end of March/June/September/December and it becomes difficult for the RBI to cope up with the pressure of receipts although additional counters to the maximum extent possible are provided for the purpose,” RBI said in a press release today.
RBI said, “In addition, the State Bank of India branches, public sector bank branches, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, AXIS Bank, and IDBI Bank branches at Delhi/New Delhi are also authorised to accept payment of income-tax dues in cash or by cheque.”
RBI has advised the customers to avoid last minute rush by remitting their income tax dues sufficiently in advance of the due date as it leads to long wait in queues for the income tax assesses.
The central bank has asked the customers to take advantage of the these arrangements made for their convenience.
