Jammu, Feb 5: Telecom major Bharti Airtel today announced launch of its service in Kargil and said its mobile network is now available across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
“District Kargil is known for its inclement weather conditions and remains cut off from the rest of the country for more than 6 months...we are pleased to have the network deployment that will allow the natives and tourists to stay connected,” Bharti Airtel's Director for Network Services Group Jagbir Singh said in a statement.
“At Airtel, it is our constant endeavour to provide superior user experience to our customers by seamlessly connecting them wherever they go,” he said. With this launch, Airtel has now become the only private operator to have network footprints in all the districts of J&K, the statement said.
Due to extreme weather conditions and rough terrains of Kargil, Airtel said it has used VSAT links and specially designed telecom infrastructure which can be adjusted as per the need during any unprecedented weather conditions for providing connectivity in the district.
While the government has undertaken various measures to improve tourist infrastructure in the region, lack of accessibility and communication during winters keeps Kargil isolated from other parts of the country, it said.
“Airtel through its network presence across all 22 districts of J&K will now allow the residents and tourists to stay connected with their friends & family across India,” it added. Bharti Airtel has now become only the second operator to offer mobile telephony services in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, Public Sector Undertaking BSNL was the only operator offering mobile phone services in Kargil.
