Jammu: AIIMS Coordination Committee, an amalgam of more than 70 social, religious and political organisations, has called for a day-long Jammu bandh on May 27 over the shifting of AIIMS from here.
The day-long bandh also coincides with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to the state.
"To show our resentment and anguish over the shifting of AIIMS from Jammu to Kashmir, the Committee has decided to observe a complete bandh on May 27," Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) President, Abhinav Sharma told PTI.
He said that the committee has also served an ultimatum of ten days to the Centre and the state government to sanction an AIIMS for Jammu.
"The committee has also given a ten days notice to the BJP MLAs from Jammu to make their stand clear on the issue of AIIMS," he said.
Sharma said that the representatives of all the 70 organisations which took part in today's meeting have resolved to take the fight for the establishment of AIIMS in Jammu to a "logical" end.
"We will ensure that the people of Jammu get their due share and are not deprived of what was sanctioned for them," he said.
The committee has also expressed its resentment over the reported shelving of the artificial lake project in Jammu.
The committee has also appealed to the people of Jammu to observe a complete bandh on May 27 so as to make it a success and send a message to the corridors of power, he said.
