AIDS scam: NGO in Tripura took funds showing 600 housewives as sex workers: Congress

Agartala: The Congress in Left-ruled Tripura has demanded a CBI probe into a major scam involving AIDS funds given to an NGO, which had allegedly prepared fictitious lists of nearly 600 housewives showing them as

When this matter came into limelight the angry mob ransacked the NGO office and damaged equipments.



“The central government is paying lot of money for controlling and what is being done here is we discovered that in a district town is they (NGO) have enrolled names of housewives as sex workers.

"Hundreds of them, daughters of someone, wives of somebody their names have be enlisted as sex workers and they have been collecting money in their names for years now,” said Dr Ashok Sinha, spokesperson of the Tripura.

In Delhi, ActionAid India, which is part of  ActionAid federation worldwide working since 1972, clarified that the allegations against the local NGO in Tripura with the name Action Aid should be confused with ActionAid India.
