New Delhi: Abdul Basit, Pakistan High Commissioner is looking to revive the possibilities of relaunching the Indo-Pak bilateral talks with India's newly appointed Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar. The dialogues were suspended by India after the Pak envoy met separatist Hurriyat leaders last year.
India has shown no interest in reviving talks since then, with Modi only exchanging greetings with Sharif at the SAARC Summit in Kathmandu.
However, India has said that talks can only be held if Pakistan takes strong action against the terrorist activities and maintain peace at the International Border. Earlier, Sharif's government has been sending the friendly gestures to India to start the bilateral dialogue.
Major General (retired) Mahmud Durrani, Pakistan's former national security adviser who was on India visit and held several meeting is believed to have brought the message from Pak PM Nawaz Sharif to normalize the bilateral relations. Durani met NSA Ajit doval and s. Jaishankar this week.
Indo-Pak Bilateral talks could resume if BJP and PDP form a government officially as some PDP members favour the talks with Pakistan.
Both Indian officials and Pakistan High Commission officially dismissed the speculation that Durrani had come with an aim to revive the dialogue.
