AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on Friday was granted bail by a Delhi court. He had been arrested by the Delhi Police at the Amdanpur Khadar on Thursday for rioting and obstructing South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) officials during an anti-encroachment drive.
According to the FIR, Khan along with five others were charged under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police registered FIR against Khan and his supporters in various sections of the IPC, including obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, rioting, armed with deadly weapon, being member of an unlawful assembly, and wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot.
Khan was granted bail by the Saket Court of the city. Violence had erupted during the drive when some people, infuriated over the process, pelted stones at the security personnel, and police then undertook a baton charge to disperse the mob.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police declared Khan as a "bad character", according to an official document. The proposal for declaring Khan as a "bad character" was sent on March 28 by the Jamia Nagar police station in Southeast district and approved on March 30. A total of 18 FIRs have been registered against him, the document stated.
