New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed the plea against Delhi Police expressed satisfaction with the response in its handling of the two-day dharna by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Jan 20-21.
Accepting the response of Delhi Policean apex court bench of Justice R.M. Lodha and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh said: "They have acted reasonably fast, and did not remain simply dormant."
"Having regard to the statement made by the DCP Headquarters with regard to the action taken once the dharna started on Jan 20, 2014, at 12.00 hours, we are satisfied that no further order needs to be passed in the present petition and the same is disposed of," the court said.
The Delhi Police was under fire for allowing Delhi government to protest and Supreme Court was seeking an explanation regarding the same.
The apex court bench of Justice RM Lodha and Justice Shiva Kirti Singh on January 24 directed the Delhi Police commissioner to file an affidavit within a week and respond to the question as to why it permitted Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues to assemble and hold dharna when prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) were in force in the area.
The two-day dharna by Kejriwal on January 20-21 witnessed several clashes between police and AAP workers, leading to injuries to at least 31 people, including police and media personnel.
