Nagpur: About 80,000 new voters have been registered in the Nagpur district after the April Lok Sabha polls, taking the total number of voters to 36,58,843 (17,51,907 of them women), said district collector Abhishek Krishna here today.

The district consists of 12 Assembly segments: Katol, Hingana, Umrer, Saoner, Kamptee, Ramtek and six seats in the city.

There will be 4,052 polling booths for the coming Maharashtra Assembly polls, said Krishna, who today addressed a press conference in his capacity as returning officer.

The administration would require 23,818 officials for poll duty on October 15, alongwith about 11,000 policemen.

Deputy collector Ajay Ramteke said 44 polling stations have been identified as sensitive, against 19 in the recently-held Lok Sabha polls.

A meeting of collectors and superintendents of police from four neighbouring districts of Madhya Pradesh has been convened on September 16 here to discuss inter-state movement of vehicles, criminals and liquor, Krishna added.
