Imphal: A bomb went off in a market area in Imphal West this evening killing eight persons and injuring 12 others.
The blast took place at around 7:35 pm.
The bomb exploded inside a temporary shed for workers who have been working near Naga River, at Nagamapal for covering the Naga River with RCC plates.
Eight workers died in the blast and 12 others seriously injured.
The incident took place when the migrant workers, all hailing from Assam, including a local resident, were taking rest after having their dinner.
Suddenly a bomb was hurled which exploded inside the temporary workers' shed, killing five of them on the spot. Three others succumbed to injuries at RIMS . All the injured have been admitted to RIMS.
Top brass police officials, including DGP, ADGP, IGPs and paramilitary troops rushed to the blast site and RIMS to assess the situation.
Till now no one has claimed the responsibility. However the IED blast which took place at Khurai Chairenthong was claimed by PLA.
