Mumbai, Mar 10: A blast in a television set on the 12th floor of Kanchenjunga building in Versova of suburban Mumbai led to a fire due to which nearly 75 residents had to be rescued from five other floors by the fire brigade.
Three persons were injured in the rescue operations, reports India TV reporter Sandeep Chaudhary.
The blast took place in apartment no 1201 on the 12th floor at around noon.
As the blaze spread throughout the floor, those living on the lower floors came out of the 17-storeyed building, but nearly 75 persons were trapped from the 12th to 17th floor and had to be rescued from the rooftop. The rescue operation went on for more than three hours.
More than 24 fire brigade engines alongwith nearly 50 personnel were involved in the fire extinguishing and rescue operations.
The cause of the blast in the tv set is being examined, said Uday Tatkare, fire brigade chief.
The fire caused widespread damaged to several apartments from the 12th to the 17th floor.
