Jammu, Aug 31: With over 65.97 lakh people visiting the Mata Vaishnodevi cave shrine this year - 8 lakh more than last year - pilgrimage to the cave shrine has surpassed all records within the first eight months this year.
“The pilgrimage turnout of past years has been surpassed. A record number of 65.97 lakh pilgrims have visited the cave shrine in eight months this year,” a Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board (SMVSB) official said.
“During the first eight months of the year 65,97,682 pilgrims visited the cave shrine - 8,28,095 lakh more than the figure of 57,69,587 pilgrims who visited last year,” he said.
In view of the growing number of pilgrims, the Board has decided to set up a four-storey pony stand and a new locker complex. PTI
