Bangalore: Mandya recorded poll percentage of 58.28 in Lok Sabha bypoll while Bangalore Rural recorded 51.97, according to the final compilation of the Election Commission.
Highest poll percentage in Mandya constituency was in Melukote (68.04) and the lowest in Krishnarajanagara (52.33), while in Bangalore Rural, Kanakapura witnessed the highest poll percentage (73.29) and Bangalore South the lowest (30.73).
The results of the bypoll would be out on August 24. The two constituencies witnessed a direct fight between the ruling Congress and JDS. BJP backed the JDS candidates C S Puttaraju (Mandya) and Anita Kumaraswamy (Bangalore Rural).
The Congress fielded actor Ramya (Mandya) and D K Suresh, brother of senior Congress leader and MLA D K Shivakumar (Bangalore Rural).
The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of JDS leaders H D Kumaraswamy (Bangalore Rural) and N Cheluvarayaswamy (Mandya) who were elected to the Assembly in the May 5 polls.
