Dehradun: Five persons were killed and three including an elderly woman injured when a vehicle they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge in Vironkhal Development block of Pauri district, police said today.
The mishap occurred on Vironkhal-Baijaro motor road late last evening when the jeep plunged into a 400 ft-deep gorge on way to Dhumakot killing five persons on the spot and leaving three including a 55-year-old woman injured, Dhumakot SHO N K Bachkheti said.
Police personnel from Rikhnikhal and Dhumakot retrieved the five bodies and rescued the injured with help from locals, he said.
The owner of the vehicle, who was driving it was also killed in the accident.
Three injured persons have been admitted to a Primary Health Centre at Rikhnikhal near Dhumakot.
A probe is on to ascertain the cause of the mishap, police said.
