Jammu: Five persons were injured in clashes between two communities on Eid day in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting authorities to impose prohibitory orders and order a magisterial probe.
Members of two communities clashed after Eid prayers over a dispute over a piece of land in Gujjar Kothi area of Reasi district this afternoon, police officials said.
In the clashes, five members of a community were injured, they said adding that police rushed to the spot and shifted injured to the district hospital.
People belonging to the particular community assembled in the Reasi town near the hospital and shouted slogans demanding action against the culprits.
As tension prevailed, district authorities imposed prohibitory orders in Reasi town and took four people into custody, they said.
A magisterial probe was also order yesterday evening.
“A magisterial probe has been ordered into allegations of lapses on part of Revenue and Police officials in taking cognizance of alleged illegal construction by one Mohd Bashir on the disputed land resulting in the clashes,” an official spokesman said.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue Tilak Raj Shastri will head the enquiry which will associate DySP HQ J S Slathia and other members, he said.
General Manager NHPC has also been directed to present a detailed report on the acquired land within two days and explain reasons for abandoning the acquired land which was encroached and has been dispute between two parties, the spokesman said.
Additional police force has been rushed to the town.
