Chandigarh, Jun 19 : Five pilgrims were killed on the spot while ten others were injured in an accident that took place near Tribune Chowk in Sector – 28 here on Saturday night, police said.
The incident took place around 10:30 PM when a group of pilgrims was crushed by a speeding bus of Chandigarh Group of College. The pilgrims were going to Nada Sahib Gurudwara.
According to eye-witnesses the bus first hit a couple going on an Activa scooty near Tribune Chowk after which driver lost control over the steering and crushed more than a dozen of pilgrims.
All of them were rushed to the hospital.
The bus driver escaped from the spot but police got hold of the cleaner who was hiding inside the bus. After the accident angry pilgrims turned violent and set the bus on fire. Extra police force was later deployed.
