New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government today suspended five policemen for their alleged role in killing of Shahjahanpur-based journalist, Jagendra Singh, by setting him ablaze.

The decision was taken after a meeting held between Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav with top police officials.

All the five suspended policemen include Kotwali police station inspector Prakash Rai, 2 sub inspector rank officers and 2 constables.

In a gut-wrenching video which emerged today, Jagendra, while lying on a hospital bed, said that the UP Minister Ram Murti Verma and his goons could have beaten him instead of setting ablaze. He also took the name of Prakash Rai.

"Police team, led by inspector Sri Prakash Rai, barged into the house and started assaulting me. They could have arrested me," the journalist said.

Jagendra had written a Facebook post over minister's involvement in illicit activities like illegal mining. The allegations levelled by Jagendra are said to have irked the Minister.
