New Delhi: A latest reports by Delhi's Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday has revealed that the state government has almost 36,000 jobs vacant and it will need at least 14 years to fill up these vacancies.
Sisodia said, by the time these vacancies are filled, it is expected that the actual requirement would have gone up manifold, rendering government functioning even more crippled than it is today.
He said, many of these jobs are being managed by contractual workers now. Given the standard pace of recruitment, it will take 165 months (13.75 years).
According to officials, the government is considering regularisation of contractual staff members who have been working for more than 10 years.
Sisodia said “There are 36,000 vacancies in various Delhi government departments, which need to be filled, while there are people working on contract in the same departments. We are looking at all these issues”.
“We have asked each department to compile a list of vacancies and how many people are working on contract. The years of experience, age, qualifications of the guest or contractual staff is also being compiled,” he said.
He mentioned that a 13-member committee headed by Chief Secretary Sanjoy Kumar Srivastava will decide the policy and guidelines for this.
In 2008, Sisodia said, 18,500 posts were vacant. “About 20 lakh applications were received but the slow appointment process coupled with inaction pushed the number to 36,000 till December 2013.”
