New Delhi: 33 minor offenders allegedly vandalised the juvenile home they were lodged in before escaping in the early hours today, with police arresting 15 of them.

The juveniles lodged in Sewa Kutir in Mukherjee Nagar area of North West Delhi pelted stones, exploded cylinders, smashed window panes and set the Superintendent's office on fire.

Before fleeing from the home, they allegedly broke open the cash chest and took away around Rs 35,000.

“The incident started yesterday evening when a group of six minors started demanding that drugs be given to them. When efforts to pacify them failed, they were joined by others and gradually their number swelled to 50. All of them started the ruckus inside the home,” staff members at the observation home said.

According to the staff members, the juveniles beat up a security guard and smashed the window panes around and pelted stones.

They then went into the kitchen and took out supplies and the cylinders. They burnt the cylinders and set all gates leading to the main area on fire.

The group climbed on to the roof of the building from where they started hurling stones and bricks at all parts of the compound.

They escaped into the main area where Superintendent office and the storeroom are located after scaling the boundary walls by placing mattresses over the barbed wires mounted on them.

They not only set the superintendent office on fire that led to destruction of several important documents, but also broke open the cash chest and took away around Rs 35,000. In the storeroom, they took out articles and threw them around, the staff members claimed.

Police said no case has been registered yet. The damage was restricted to the property and no major physical injury was reported, they said.
