New Delhi: Looks like infants care more about the environment than adults. Three kids, aged between 6 months to 14 months, have moved to Supreme Court demanding a ban on crackers this Dussehra and Diwali besides seeking other measures.

The infants, in their petition before SC, have sought implementation of Bharat-V or better emission norms into operations across the country.

"Our lungs have not yet fully developed and we cannot take further pollution through bursting of crackers," the petition filed by the fathers of three children on their behalf says.

According to a report by Times of India, Aarav Bhandari and Arjun Gopal, both aged six months, and 14-month-old Zoya Rao Bhasin moved the SC through their advocate fathers. The petition seeks several measures to mitigate pollution and exercise their right to clean air guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

“Over the last two years, Delhi has retained the unique distinction of being the most polluted city in the world. The levels of particulate matter are highest, and across the country, over 7 lakh deaths occur annually due to air-pollution related diseases,” the petition said.

Studies show that Indian citizens have 30% lower lung capacity than Europeans, and that children are the worst affected, as their lungs have not yet fully developed and their systems are vulnerable, they said.
