Etah: A man was arrested in Bhargain town here for allegedly carrying 20 quintals of beef in an utility vehicle which was being taken to Delhi for sale, police said today.
Acting on a tip-off, police stopped the vehicle and recovered 20 quintals of beef from it near Jhakrai village in kotwali Aliganj yesterday.
Of the three persons in the vehicle, accused Jitender was arrested, while the two other accused - Bhoorey and Sabir - managed to escape.
The meat was being taken to Delhi for sale, police informed.

Former MLA Shishupal Singh Yadav said that Bhargain town is known for cows slaughtering and supplying beef in spite of a ban on such activities.
Yadav alleged that police has proved to be total failurein curbing the crime. He also alleged that the locals had once assaulted police party, which was on a raid to keep a check on such activities.
