Vijaywada: 19 persons were feared dead and several injured after a fly ash carrying lorry flipped at NH 214 in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
The incident happened in Gandapalli village at 3.30 am when the lorry carrying 35 labourers was travelling from Vijayawada to Vizag.
The police and locals removed the ash using an earthmover and rescued 17 people. The injured have been shifted to a local government hospital.
16 bodies have been recovered until now, SP, East Godavari Ravi Prakash told reporters.
East Godavari district police said the mishap occurred due to negligent driving. It is suspected that the driver may have dozed off resulting in the accident. The driver and the cleaner escaped from the site soon after the accident.
