Rameswaram: The judicial remand of 110 fishermen from Nagapattinam, arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy earlier this month, was today extended till January 6 by a court in the island nation.
The court in Thungamalli in Sri Lanka extended the remand of the fishermen, arrested on December 11 while they were fishing in the Palk Strait off Kodiakarai near Nagapattinam, Armstrong Fernando, president of a local fishermen association, said quoting information received by them.
Fishermen from 54 hamlets in Nagapattinam observed a relay fast, demanding the release of their colleagues and withdrew the four-day-old stir on December 24 following a meeting with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
